SAVING PRIVATE RYAN Writer To Script WARCRAFT Adaptation, Geeks To Welcome War Film Enthusiasts Into The Fold
Robert Rodat, writer of Saving Private Ryan, has joined team Raimi to write on the upcoming Blizzard Adaptation of Warcraft. Some people groan in dismay at this, but I think it’s a fantastic idea. In essence, what Warcraft is about is two nations who can’t get along. There are both good and bad guys on each side that keep them embroiled in conflict. That conflict is stupid because there are larger nastier forces out there, but in spite of it all they can’t form a lasting peace due to their prejudices and inability to get over past wrongs.
Because this is the essence of the story, I think that getting a war movie writer to do the script is a really good idea. As long as they don’t ignore the lore, or try and rewrite it altogether, they could make a really good fantasy war movie.
No solid date for filming is set but we do know that it won’t start until after Raimi is done with Spiderman 4. Here is what Variety had to say:
“ The plan is for Raimi to supervise development of "Warcraft" and shoot the picture after he completes work on "Spider-Man 4," which gets under way early next year for Columbia Pictures.
Legendary Pictures and vidgame publisher Blizzard Entertainment are mounting the film, and Warner Bros. will co-finance and distribute.”
It’s nice to know that Blizzard’s money is going into the film as well. Maybe they won’t let Hollywood bastardize the lore too much.
DS Out.

Does this mean I can finally understand the game itself just by watching this movie? My friends explained the plot of the game to me before only to leave me with a “huh?” expression on my face, haha
I hope they take this opportunity to bring some people out of the cold who have no idea about what is going on in Warcraft. As far as your friend’s trying to explain the plot of the game– yeah. It’s really complex. Don’t feel bad for walking away confused.
there is a plot and story to WoW. i thought it was about running around and killing shit to get better gear?
See, that’s part of the misnomer of Warcraft. Everyone keeps calling this a WoW movie, but really its a Warcraft movie. Not the same thing.
Is WoW more popular than Warcraft? I remember back in what was probably my middle school days, Warcraft dominated the lives of all prepubescent boys.
It still does in this, it’s newest incarnation. I would say that, yes, it is more popular. Most people play WoW and have no idea that there were regular pc games before it came out. I berate these morons in-game whenever I come across them.
