Star Wars Concert Was Amazing! Euphoria, Thy Name Is Drunken Scholar
Just got home from Star Wars In Concert, and all I have to say is Oh-Em-Gee! See what I did there? That’s text speak, but phonetically correct. Because I’m an English major…it’s sorta what I do.
Anyway, Star Wars in Concert! If you don’t know what that is, basically, it is an orchestra performing a selection of the Star Wars soundtrack, while playing high definition clips of all six movies. The music and clips are cleverly interwoven to tell the complete saga through this amazing show. The best part? Anthony Daniels was there to introduce each piece of music and set the tone for the major themes that piece is meant to portray, while engaging the audience in a storytelling experience that brings a fresh perspective the well known and loved saga.
Going into this thing, I was a little critical. I am a Star Wars fan to who looks beyond the annoyances of Ewoks and Gungans. Those things aren’t important. The themes of the saga are what make it amazing for me. I had a solid idea how this SHOULD go. What songs SHOULD be performed. In the first act of the show, I was completely blown away. I’ll be damned if they didn’t play EVERY SONG I THOUGHT THEY SHOULD. Seriously, that first act was so amazing they could have looped “Jedi Rock” over and over again for act two and I would have still been happy. BTW, they didn’t. Jedi Rock was nowhere near this show, thank God.
I’ve loved Star Wars and everything to do with it for a really long time. I own all the films, I’ve read all the books, and the soundtrack makes a regular rotation in my cd changer. I am not one to think I’ve taken George Lucas’s hard work for granted. But this show slapped me in the face with the power of each composition, shining a light on the emotions each piece is meant to portray. When they played “Across the Stars” along with clips of Anakin and Padme it really hits you in the gut, how beautiful and doomed their love always was from the beginning. I’m not ashamed to admit I got a little misty.
If you love Star Wars, you’ll love this show. If you appreciate Star Wars, you’ll walk away with a new respect for the saga. Who knows? It may turn you into a die hard fan.
After the jump are a bunch of photos of the props they had on display. I was like a kid in a frakking candy store!

My wife is the coolest chick ever. Not only does she put up with my impish and sometimes infantile behavior, but she was as enamored with it all as I was. She wanted the Chewie pic, and who am I to argue? She looks better standing next to him than I do anyway.

Possibly the BEST post you’ve posted on this blog. Your blogs are always interesting, but this made me super duper triple excited. I had to pause the boyfriend (who was working on a paper) every few pictures to say these:
1) AWWW
2) CUTE
3) LOOK AT THIS
4) STORM TROOPER
5) DARTH VADERR!
Your wife looks so cute and friendly! You look so huggable. I LIKE LIKE LIKEEEE.
YOU’RE GONNA ENJOY THIS:
Heh, I’d forgotten all about that.
“Ow, why’d you slice off my hand!”
Classic.
